INFO
Worn To Wear consists of three statement garments that demonstrate an appreciation for the way materials age as we us them, and visualises this relationship between a wearer and a garment.
Inspired by the beautiful ageing process of copper each of the garments is made using a different technique to incorporate a copper element in the textile. A knitted sweater and a woven Kimono are made of an uncoated copper and an organic unbleached cotton yarn. Both textiles are handmade and produced to ensure no waste material. The suit is made from an unbleached cotton which is screen-printed with a special copper-based ink.
The flexible properties of the copper enable the garments to adapt to the movements of the user, giving it sculptural qualities. Upon prolonged contact with natural elements as water and sweat, the copper will oxidise, gradually creating an irreversible colour change in the absorbent cotton textile. The result is a garment that shows the beauty of time and influence of being worn.
Worn To Wear reconsiders the ways in which we approach materials that interact with our bodies. In emphasising the beauty of longevity, these pieces restore value in the connection we have with our garments making worn clothes the clothes to wear.
